Troubleshooting

Electrolux dryer not heating: causes and what to check

Short answer: An Electrolux dryer that tumbles without heat usually has an open safety device in the heat circuit — often tripped by restricted venting — a failed heating element or gas-burner part, a supply problem (gas off, or one leg of the 240 V supply missing on electric), or a loose connector. Electrolux's own tech tips stress that E53 is almost never the control or motor but a wiring/electrical issue in the heat circuit.

What this usually means

The complaint: The drum turns but the air stays cool, or a heat-related code appears.

The same complaint can come from more than one system, so the useful question is which system — not which part — before anything is replaced. The causes below are ordered by how often they explain this symptom on the Electrolux families listed, and each one is tied to a check you or a technician can make.

Normal behavior to rule out first

  • Electrolux gas dryers with a ventilation-blocked code (EF1) or no-gas code (EF3) stop heating by design until the cause is fixed.

Electrolux models this applies to

This guide draws on manufacturer service documentation for these Electrolux families. Other models follow similar logic, but the exact diagnostic path depends on the model and control platform.

  • Electrolux 300–700 Series front-load dryers (ELFE electric / ELFG gas)
  • Electrolux LuxCare front-load dryers (EFMG gas / EFME electric)
  • Electrolux Laundry Tower (ELTE electric / ELTG gas)
  • Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch front-load dryers (EIED / EIGD / EWED / EWGD / EIMED / EIMGD)

Possible causes

Listed roughly from most to least common for this symptom. Several can produce the same result, which is why a technician tests before replacing parts.

  1. Restricted lint path or exhaust vent

EF1 (ventilation blocked) troubleshooting starts with the lint filter and the vent to the wall; restricted venting can also open the thermal limiter (LN1304).

  2. Open thermal limiter or thermostat

Usually a result of overheating, so the vent is checked before replacement. Typical repair: $180–$290.

  3. Heating element open or shorted (electric)

    E63/E64 heater short/open. Typical repair: $180–$420.

  4. Gas burner parts (igniter, valve coils, flame sensor)

Diagnosed by a technician; never DIY gas work. Typical repair: $180–$440.

  5. Gas supply off or low pressure

EF3 = no gas supply detected (ELFG).

  6. Heat-circuit wiring or connector (E53, EHd)

Electrolux tech tips trace E53, EHd and some no-heat complaints to unseated pins or loose connectors in the heat circuit or at the main board — not to the board itself. Typical repair: $180–$330.

  7. One leg of the 240 V supply missing (electric)

The drum can turn on 120 V while the heater needs 240 V; a half-tripped double breaker produces exactly this.

  8. Temperature sensor (NTC) fault

    E71-E74. Typical repair: $180–$290.

Stop and call a professional if you notice

Smoke, sparking, a burning smell, melted wiring, any electrical shock, a gas odor, severe overheating, damaged refrigerant lines, or water reaching electrical parts. Turn the appliance off or disconnect power only if you can do it safely — for a gas odor, leave the home and call the gas utility from outside.

What you can safely check

  • Clean the lint screen and check the lint screen housing for lint buildup.
  • Go outside while the dryer runs on high heat and feel the vent hood: airflow should be strong and warm. Weak flow means the vent needs cleaning.
  • Gas dryer: make sure the gas shut-off valve behind the dryer is open (handle in line with the pipe). If you smell gas, do not operate anything — leave and call the gas company. Use caution
  • Electric dryer: reset the double breaker by switching it fully off, then on. Use caution
  • Run a timed dry on high heat; sensor-dry cycles can stop early if a load is already nearly dry.

What a technician checks

  • Reads stored codes and runs the heater tests in diagnostic mode (NTC1/NTC2 controlled heating).
  • Checks the heat circuit wiring and connector seating per LNTT234A/LNTT235A/LNTT2519.
  • Measures the element or gas-burner circuit and the safety devices with power removed; verifies gas pressure with a manometer on gas models.
  • Inspects venting before replacing any safety device.

Typical repair cost

RepairTypical range
Gas burner parts (igniter, valve coils, flame sensor)$180–$440
Heat-circuit wiring or connector repair$180–$330
Heating element (electric)$180–$420
Temperature sensor (NTC)$180–$290
Thermal limiter or high-limit thermostat$180–$290

Estimated repair ranges represent typical repairs under normal service conditions. Your final cost depends on the exact model, the parts required, supplier pricing and availability, what diagnosis finds, and the labor involved. Additional labor may be needed when the appliance has to be pulled out, uninstalled and reinstalled, or when cabinetry, trim, panels or other components must be removed to reach the failed part. Parts prices change with supplier availability, market conditions, shipping and import costs. You receive the final repair price for approval after diagnosis and before any repair work begins. The $75 service call is applied toward an approved repair. Labor is covered by our 90-day labor warranty, and qualifying parts carry the applicable 1-year manufacturer warranty.

When to schedule service

If the safe checks above don't solve it, or a code returns after a reset, schedule a diagnosis. Online troubleshooting is preliminary guidance, not a diagnosis. Electrolux appliances use different control platforms, sensors and diagnostic logic depending on the model, and several failures can produce the same symptom — internal testing is often needed to identify the actual failed component. A $75 service call covers the diagnosis and is applied toward the approved repair.
